| The No. 1 Incurable Disease is....
1. The Common Cold Wikipedia The common cold is an acute viral infection that starts in the upper respiratory tract, sometimes spreads to the lower structures, and may cause secondary infections in the eyes or middle ears. More than 100 agents cause the common cold, including parainfluenza, influenza, respiratory syncytial viruses, and reoviruses. Rhinoviruses, however, are the most frequent cause. The popular term common cold reflects the feeling of chilliness on exposure to a cold environment that is part of the onset of symptoms. The feeling was originally believed to have a cause-and-effect relationship with the disease, but this is now known to be incorrect. The cold is caught from exposure to infected people, not from a cold environment, chilled wet feet, or drafts. People can carry the virus and communicate it without experiencing any of the symptoms themselves. Incubation is short — usually one to four days. The viruses start spreading from an infected person before the symptoms appear, and the spread reaches its peak during the symptomatic phase. |

| Philippines: RP, Japan welcome UN resolution 1874 and urge denuclarization of Korean Peninsula The Philippines has reiterated its support for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the need for an early, peaceful and diplomatic resolution of the issue to maintain peace and stability in the region. In their joint statement signed here Thursday night, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso welcomed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1874 which, among others, strongly condemns the underground nuclear test conducted last May 25 by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). The two leaders also condemned the launch by North Korea of a long-range missile last May 5 which violated relevant UNSC resolutions and poses a threat to international peace and security. President Arroyo and Prime Minister Aso also underlined the need to resolve abduction cases reportedly involving North Korea. “The Philippines expressed its support for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and efforts of the United Nations to bring lasting peace and stability in the region. We also support the need to resolve the abduction, nuclear, and missile issues in North Korea. I also stressed the need for a peaceful and diplomatic resolution of the issues, through the Six Party Talks,” the President said during the media audience after signing the joint statement. During her visit to South Korea last month, the President also called for an expeditious end to the tension that has gripped the Korean Peninsula through the UN and Six-Party Talks after the North Korean nuclear test. |
